Far Cry 2
Has anyone else picked this up? I got it yesterday after trading in some games but held off playing last night at the LAN due to dodgy electrics and Internet, but today has been much more solid, so I've just given it a spin.
Only had 2 rounds in Multiplayer which I thought was much better than the offerings of Far Cry and Far Cry Instincts, so that's a positive. It's actually pretty bloody hard and sadly levels weapons in a way that the more you play the much better your guns, at the moment it's obviously not that bad, but coming in late it could cause real problems - if people come to it, which I doubt given that Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty 5 are just around the corner. Just started the SP campaign, was surprised to see you get to choose a character from a set of 8, all of which sound quite interesting but I don't think have any difference on the story of the game - I'm sure I'll find out, but I doubt it. Game starts much in the same way as Call of Duty 4, a long drive in a car - except you're in Africa . One thing that has stood out so far is the music, it's very good so far. A great score. Any who, back to the game... |

I wouldn't mind playing this, really enjoyed the original, sadly my laptop won't be upto it since i don't use my computer anymore (and that won't be up to it either anyway!). I'm sure it'll be good though

Was in two minds about whether to buy this so I "ahem" downloaded a copy of it to try first.
Glad I did - hated it! Not sure what it is but I found the control system really "weird". Couldn't gel with it at all and the movement just didn't feel right. Can't quite put my finger on it. Reading over on the OcUK forums, looks like an awful lot of people are very unimpressed with this game and there are a lot of copies for sale already.

If you play a widescreen res on PC, the way they've implemented it gives an odd field of view, like the camera is hovering a foot in front of your face.

Played a bit more and it's quite impressive really. Graphically it's rather incredible what they've managed. Comparing it to the PC version running on an 8800GTX there isn't much in it at all.
I can see why some wouldn't like it, but I can also see why some would really like it. The only issue I see people having is that they want a game to play just like FarCry and it doesn't. It feels a totally different game. I do really like the environment though. Better than I though so far. |

Potentially excellent game marred by overly agressive AI with the ability to reincarnate themselves after you leave an area. I hate the fact you'll wipe out an outpost only to go back to it 15 mins later to find it full of baddies again, also EVERYONE seems to hate you for no particular reason.

I noticed that on a friends game. He was driving down a road and someone started shooting at him for no reason.

Towards the end of the game they ramp up the strength and amount of enemies all over the map. The result is one of the most agonizingly annoying and stressful gaming moments i have ever seen, drive half a mile, get your engine gasket shot out, jump out and fight the baddies, fix the car with your magic wrench, continue for another half mile, repeat.

Also, the gameplay just isn't drawing me in. Gutted as I was really looking forward to this. |

The more I play of this the more I am absolutely blown away by the visuals and the effects. It's without a doubt the finest shadowing I've seen, though HDR is perhaps overplayed a bit.
The downside of the graphics being so freaking good is that spotting enemies is almost impossible at times til they shoot at you. Thankfully it seems to work the other way too, I walked through the jungle as 2 enemies were walking down a path and I got within 3 feet of them without them seeing me where I took them out with 1 shot to the head each. The effects of this game are brilliant too, I threw a grenade at an enemy vehicle and it landed underneath, blew the jeep over and over a few enemies, it looked amazing. |
