Horse-riding
Something I've always wanted to do and soon will be in a financial position to be able to, hopefully.
I just wondered what sort of effort or pressure is put through legs and ankles whilst horseriding? The stables I have been told do adult lessons use mounting blocks, so I don't have to worry about that side of things, but obviously once I'm up there I need to be able to stay on and control the horse!

Would have thought it would be avoidable given that it's not unheard of to have (permanently) disabled horse riders.

I am the same as you Sinead, I love horse riding.
To be honest I don't think there will be any more pressure needed than walking would

Personally Vix, I would say hang fire for quite a while!
I organised my work place ladies to go have a horse riding session as we hadn't been in years and were chin wagging about it. It was awesome and for some bizarre reason came flooding back to me (like cycling a bike)... although I forgot how many different muscles it used! I should imagine Karyns the best lady to speak to but trotting you need to use your legs a fair bit (constantly up and down - butt muscles get a right work out)... not something I could see you comfortably doing right now! However, if it's just a walk about, steer the monkey and stop and go for mini walks over a heath then you should be fine! You do need to squeeeeeeeeze with your leggies though and kick a little but not greatly! Depends on how much you want to do I guess So maybe you'd be alright! I just know when I got on my horseroo I was like "YEEEEEHA! Lets gallop! Woio wooo!" |

Ankles and knees are both used a lot. And don't forget once you're up there you've got to get off somehow. My knees seize up if I ride at a walk for any length of time and I once threw myself onto the muckheap to avoid getting off normally. It's a option
Contact an RDA place, they will have suitable horses and facilities for getting off safely. Most of them will offer private lessons.

Thanks for everyone's input. I was thinking of starting in the Summer anyway so hopefulyl I should be a lot better by then
