Default A movie tie in series that doesn't suck? Really?

I'm seriously impressed. After many bad movie tie in series, one has finally taken the films and made a damn good series from it.

Today, I've watched the whole of Series 1 of The Sarah Connor Chronicles - bloody hell it's good.

The woman who plays Sarah Connor is superb in the role. The girl who plays the Terminator is even better. John Connor is a bit of a little git, but I suppose thats understandable given who he's meant to be.

Some of the stories tie into the films really well and it seems that they have taken the first 2 films as gospal and have tried to do as much within that framework as possible. Even the episode set partially in the future could almost have been done by James Cameron.

I really should be going through the IMDB top 250... but I fancied a change after a crappy weekend and Rocky can wait... *perferably until I have nothing else to watch - along with Sin City and the Bored of the Things trilogy*

I'll start on Series 2 tomorrow.

Amazing to think that Sarah Connor is played by Miss Hedley (I can't remember her first name... Lena possibly?) who plays the role of the soft teacher in the latest St. Trinians movie.

More bizarrely is the use of former Garbage lead singer Shirley Manson as a machine... First acting role, not sure how she landed that gig.

Finally, Summer Glau is brilliant in it from what I've seen, as she was in Firefly and Serenity. First time I saw her was in Angel as a Prima Ballerina, which as it turns out, was a role she lived for real and came to acting later... she doesn't look like a Ballerina now .

I've only seen 2 or 3 episodes of it, but have been impressed with what I have seen.

I haven't gotten around to trying this yet though i think i will tomorrow after reading these comments.

Oh and, another film spinoff series that was good (albeit after a slow start) was Stargate SG1. It was cheesy, over the top and poorly acted but i loved it.

I'm really enjoying TSCC. S2 has been better than 1 so far. Loved the Shirley Manson track and the soundtrack is well done too.

I wasn't expecting much, but it was a cheap bluray I got from Woolies so I decided to give it a go.... Very pleasently surprised. Plus it looks really good for a TV series.

Was never really a fan of SG1. I saw the pilot and a couple of the following eps and prefered the film.

I'm 3 episodes into S2 now. It's a lot darker than S1 - which is good.

Agreed on SG1. The film was pretty good. The series was of course a bit of a mixed bag with a slow start, but it got there.

And of course, if you're into such things, there was always Buffy (the movie was dire so there wasn't a lot the series needed to beat).

Heretic! The film was a superbly acted oscar worthy account of one girls struggle against adversity (and vampires). The dialogue was witty and the film just flowed brilliantly from one scene to the next.

I actually quite enjoyed Buffy the film. Works great if you take it for a spoof film.

It does lead to the funny reference in the first episode of the series
Quote:
Mr. Flutie: Buffy Summers, sophomore, late of Hemery High in Los Angeles. Interesting record, quite a career... (tears the sheet of paper up) Welcome to Sunnydale! A clean slate, Buffy, that's what you get here. What's past is past. We're not interested in what it says on a piece of paper, even if it says... (reading) Whoa.
Buffy: Mr. Flutie...
Mr. Flutie: All the kids here are free to call me Bob.
Buffy: Bob...
Mr. Flutie: But they don't.
Buffy: I know my transcripts are a little... colourful.
Mr. Flutie: Hey... We're not caring about that. Do you think, uh, "colourful" is the word? Not, uh, "dismal"?
Buffy: Wasn't that bad!
Mr. Flutie: You burned down the gym.
Buffy: I did, I really did, but... You're not seeing the big picture here, I mean, that gym was full of vampi... asbestos.
