Default My flash stopped working

I have a Canon powershot S70. Today the flash stopped working.

It's definitely set to come on and it's definitely dark enough. I've restored factory settings :/

I've read one instance of someone having one where the flash burnt out but he took a pic of it and you could clearly see the plastic was burnt.

For some reason it is only switching between auto and no flash, whereas I'm convinced it usually lets me force a flash. However in full manual mode, the flash still wont fire.

Can anyone think of any other buttons I can press to see if it's just the camera gone scrwey or if the flash really has given up?

If the flash has given up, can I do anything about it?

Maybe take the batteries and memory card out overnight and try it again tomorrow.

Hmm, my A620 developed a similar fault the other day. If it is on auto or the flash is forced on, it just won't take a picture at all. The flash symbol on the display flashes but no pic. If I turn the flash off it's fine.

Forgot to add - could be bad batteries too. If you have another set, try them (assuming you haven't already).

No idea what to suggest but I hope you can get sorted/fixed without too much hassle

Do they have camera fixing shops? Like if I take it to Jessops will they be able to tell me what's up?

(Don't know if we have things like Jessops here!)

It will almost certainly have to go back to Canon even if you take it to Jessops, likelyhood with a compact that it will cost more to repair than it would to buy another

Sorry
