Default Train ticket question

If you buy cheap train tickets online, but miss the train your specified back, is it OK to get a later one, or will they charge you?

It depends on the train ticket type. Some are ok with it as long as it's the same day or the same route, some as long as it's the same month and some require you to take the exact train times on the ticket.
Do you know what type of ticket it is?

The train ticket site should also be able to let you know the terms and conditions of the tickets.

Yeah, I can't find anything in the FAQ. This is the booking confirmation. There are a few trains afterwoods which I might prefer if we want to stay out a bit longer.

What site is it? I know thetrainline is usually quite good at explaining it when you book, iirc FGW is too.
The ticket should have a validity date on it too.

Having done a quick google (never heard of a super off peak day ticket):
Quote:
Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets may require you to travel at specific times of day, days of the week or on a specific route.

Website journey planners can tell you when your ticket can be used – simply enter your outward and return journey times to see the trains you can travel on.

Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak Singles and the outward part of Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak Return tickets are valid for travel on the date shown on your ticket. Break of journey for an overnight stay is allowed. Where a journey continues into the next day travel must resume before 1200 and no further break of journey is allowed except to change trains.

Return part of Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak Return tickets are valid for travel within one calendar month of the outward journey. Travel is allowed until 02:30 on the day following the last day of validity. If it is not possible to complete the journey before this time travel is allowed until 12:00 on the day following the last day of validity, provided that there is no further break of journey. NOTE: Cross London transfers will not be accepted by London Underground during this extension period.

If the route shown on the ticket has a †, the ticket includes the cost of travelling between certain London Stations (e.g. between Liverpool St and Paddington) by either London Underground, Docklands Light Railway (DLR) or First Capital Connect (Thameslink Route) services appropriate to the route of the journey being made.

Hopefully of help

If I'm reading it correctly, you should be fine to do that.

Cool - Thanks!

The super off peak one is cheaper than a normal off peak one because it's later in the day. The train has to arrive in London after 12pm.

It was booked with thetrainline.com but I still don't think it's very clear. I've never booked online before but it was about 50% the price. I know with usual tickets you can get any train you like within the allocated peak zone. I thought they might force you to pick specific ones because of the difference in price.

Nps
The system is a bit confusing if you're not used to it. I've been ordering tickets online for a few years now so it finally makes sense But I remember it being a bit WTF at first
