MSN
Grr - I'm fighting with MSN at the moment
It forced me to update it to the 2009 version and now won't let me sign in at all. It doesn't even give an error code, it just takes me back to the sign in page again and again and again I've looked at oldversion.com and found the previous version but again it forced me to upgrade It suggested going to another website to download "the appropriate patch" to stop the forced upgrade but hell if I can find the patch on the site! So now I can't sign in to msn at all - that was a useful upgrade wasn't it microsoft I like msn no matter what other people think and have never wanted to get anything else looks like I don't have any choice now though |

Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped writing about other things and made this your signature, yours could be like mine. Look down, back up. Where are you? You're on Boat Drinks, reading the signature your signature could be like. I'm on a computer. |

Apparently a few others have had the same issue and adding the following to the hosts file fixed it:
65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com But I wouldn't suggest that until all else has failed.

I'm still using Messenger 8.1, but mine has been very heavily A-Patch'd, which might be why it isn't complaining. It's working right now.

Yeah digsby is totally amazing, and unless you want to use audio or video with other friends or multi convo chat, then its far superior. Until they sort out those massive failings i can't change over permanently...

I only use the official client at work and it's been offering me the new version for a couple of weeks. I've resisted it and I really hope it's not forced on me.

The new version is horrible. It's so wishy washy, they've tried to make it simple but ended up complicating it. Even after A-Patching it it's crap, like the colour coded status lights for people, why change all of that, it worked fine?! Old Messenger used to just do the icon, the clock for being away, no entry sign for being busy etc. Now it's coloured. Red is away, and also the same for busy I think. The colour customisation is pointless, I chose black as my "scene" and it gave me a very light grey and green theme. Can't go darker to match the rest of the desktop or anything. Either let me customise it or don't Microsoft, letting me change 10% of the theme is frustratingly pointless.
I managed to roll back to 8.1 and APatch it to hell and mine seems ok. Won't be long till it breaks though I suppose. Microsoft have a habit of pulling the plug on old versions and shoehorning people onto the new ones, even if the users dislike the new one and prefer the old one.
