Fish and seafood...

I heart fish muchly although a lot of the time find I canny afford it (boo). The other day though, with my folks popping down, I thought it would be a nice idea to make a kind of tomatoey greek-style fish dish. Short on time and wonga, in the supermarket I looked at what fresh fish they had and then pondered on what price their frozen would be (and what would it be like). By the time I had reached the frozen I was fed up of shopping, saw Youngs Cod Fillets and figured "wellll they're going to be flavoured to the max with a deep tomatoey baked sauce, I might as well buy this and be done with it".

When I got home though, Picky reminded me we had Pollock in the freezer (caught by him on a fishing trip a while ago) and it needed using, so I bunged the Youngs Cod in the freezer and used the pollock. It was LOVELY. Meaty, tasty and worked perfeckly with tomatoes and herbs.

Anyways. A few weeks later I fancy fish so got out the Youngs Cod Fillets and decide to use them. Out of the packet, they were quite impressive in size (8-9inches in length - translation for you men - 10-12 of your inches

). I tin foiled them up, sprinkled some sundried tomato over it and a bit of their oil, along with some freshly picked spinach. In one package I also piled on a layer of cottage cheese thinking it might make a tasty mound.

Bunged them in the oven, prepared some couscous, grilled my courgettes and peppers and then all was ready.

Pop... out of the oven, unwrap the parcels and BIG FAT BOO as they'd both shrunk to about 3inches in length and width. Poor Picky... he's a monster when it comes to eating fud and well... this was a pathetic meal that would barely fill me up, let alone him!

Taste wise... the combo of sundried toms and cottage cheese rocked but the fish was bland. I called up Youngs and they're sending me through a voucher (God knows what I'll spend it on... probably some frozen shrimps or maybe some scampi far a random treat some when).

Whatever you do though... AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!! I knew there'd be a big risk of tastlessness and shrinkage but not to that extent! Big time boo!

Soooo fishy goodness! What's your favourites/dislikes? I'm more of a shellfish person - I could eat mussels until they came out my ears and think crab is
divine! (I don't get why people are obsessed with lobster though - in comparison to crab it's tasteless and well. Not very exciting!) My favouritist fish has to be monkfish though... BBQ'd.

I've not used Youngs Cod, but their haddock is surprisingly good for frozen fish - I use it as the base for fish pie and it holds up very well.

Like you I'm more of a shellfish person (though I do adore Turbot & Sea Bass). I can't really pick a favourite but crab has to be up there as does lobster though I appear to be allergic to lobster now.

I really like oysters too, but have to be in the mood for them. Squid and octopus are rather scrummy too though octopus is chewy and squid can be if it is overcooked.

Shellfish here also - mussels are good, prawns are better tho, esp with a sweet chilli sauce. And calamari is the finest of all food from the briny deep.

I don't like seafood. I LOVE fresh fish though.

The best fish I can remember was fresh Red Snapper in Portugal. We also had some yummy Sea Bass in Kiama in Australia... on a a bed of sweet potato squash mmm!
