Flowers

Went out walking yesterday and found some flowers. The first ones are the pinkest flowers I've ever seen and I was happy with this shot with the sun shining through them. Pity the bumblebee isn't a bit clearer.

Then there were these white flowers. I like this shot but it isn't quite framed properly - I've chopped the end of the lowermost petal off

This is the next best one of the white flowers. I prefer the other one but this one's not too bad I think:

Love #2, yes you lost a smidge off the bottom petal and it would be better if it were all in shot with a little space to frame it but it comes in at an angle, hits the sweet spot at 3rds and is a nice shot. The straight line in the background distracts a little bit despite the bokeh but (like you I suspect) its not something I'd see till after I'd taken the shot and looked at it on a PC, its worth noting for the future.

#1 I'm not so keen on, the problem with bloody cameras is they aren't as adaptable as the human eye and where our eyes can compensate for high contrast between lit and unlit parts of a frame a camera can't so you get distracting highlights, the best way round this (at least initially) is to keep the sun at your back, phtographing partially shaded subjects can work but not for me in this case, try it next time with a fil in flash if you can't change the angle, this will also turn your bee from a silluete into a bee

Also (God I feel like a git) the flowers are nice but we're losing form for the sake of gaining colour. I bet they were a beautiful shape but because we're moving from 3d to 2d we can't make out the shape due to the similar coloured background. Solution, recompose like the second shot to keep a single flower isolated so we can see its true shape do it against a contrasting background and with the lens at its lowest aperture and it'll be a hit

#3 is good, I like it, the flower would have benifited from a little fluffing

maybe remove the leaf at the bottom which looks a little past its sell by

pull out a little and reposition the subject closer to 3rds but as I say I like it

Are we shooting in Av? Its a good habit to get into I found especially when you want control over a depth of field.

This is actually the bit that got my attention!

This proves you're not only taking more time over your composition etc, but you know when you've made a mistake. I bet you'll never make it again Stan! Keep at it!
