Default Musicals

In general, I LOVE musicals! I love the dancing, singing and experience of it all.

Recently though I have been a bit :/ there may be spoilers here...

Wicked
Soooo many people said 'its AMAZING!!! You'll love it' but, I totally didn't get it. I think what I didn't 'get' was the fact that someone has just made up a story based on characters in Wizard of Oz... but that's how most musicals have evolved right? It never really interested me... but the singing and production was AMAZING! Even though I didn't know any of the songs... but I borrowed my cousin's soundtrack and listen to it all the time. I think I will try and get some cheap tickets and see it again as I missed the second half (was knackered and fell asleep).

Dirty Dancing
Another one ITS AMAZING/FANTASTIC!!!AM SEEING IT AGAIN.
It was lacklustre and BORING!!! Give me the film anytime!!! I do not understand the hype around this musical. There is barely any singing and a lot of dancing (obviously) but not AMAZING dancing, like in Fame or Saturday Night Fever. They spent too much time on the american accents and Jonny (although having a fit bod) was a total minger... and too short.

Baby was ok, well cast, looked like her, but the best person was the girl who played Penny (the one who gets knocked up) she was a fantastic dancer.

Unfortunately I had a can of redbull during the interval as I didn't want to miss the end of another show, but tbh I wish I had snoozed through the second half.

The best bit was the end (obviously) and they didn't get a standing ovation (maybe 4 people in the stalls).

Do you become more critical with age!? :/

Wicked is absolutely amazing. The second half really ties things up together. It's a big departure from the book the musical is based upon, but then the book is rather dark and not really suited to being a musical

I love musicals also.

Seven Brides For Seven Brothers - DRAMA!

Hairspray. Love the original too, but they're like 2 different films and I love em both.

Grease - Nuff said.

Calamity Jane - Nothing like riding the sofa like a horse while pretending to lasoo things and singing along with Doris.

Little Shop Of Horrors - 'When I was younger, just a bad little kid...' 'FEED ME!'

Cabaret - So sad. Some fab routines and songs in this.

Chicago - Cell Block Tango is a must. Makes the hairs stand up on my arms.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch - Twisted and dark.

Gypsy - One of my earliest memories is of wanting to be Miss Mazeppa. Explains a lot.

Nightmare Before Christmas - Obviously!

Rocky Horror - Dammit, Janet.

I don't get to the theatre anywhere near as much as I should do but Musicals are great. Last few I seen in Manchester were

Footloose - 80's awesomness

Cats - Not my bag but quite entertaining

Was it Stephen? If so I think I know what happened there.

I thought We Will Rock You was rubbish. Lion King was fab. Chicago was good. Ashamedly that's all I've seen (apart from all the High School Musicals multiple times, thanks to the wife).

Que pasa?!

Others I have seen:

Saturday Night Fever
BRILLIANT! Saw it with Adam Garcia as the lead *swoon* he is the sex!
Was dancing in the aisles!

Chicago
Loved it, esp Cell Block Tango, thought the film was carp after that! Denise Van Outen was the lead.

Billy Elliot
Another BRILLIANT show! I was a bit dubious how they would do this after the film, but it was magnificent, made memorable by Elton John sitting 4 rows behind us (we had unwittingly purchased 10th Anniversary seats and they wanted to buy the tickets back off of us... er no way!)

Phantom
Is Phantom... brilliant, didn't really like the leads, but the music and staging was fantastical.

Haven't seen Grease... and I'm not going to at the moment as the midget boy Ray Quinn is Danny and I can't stick him...can't believe he's been cast the part... surely he has platform shoes.
