Default Dog Barking...

Not good news.

Set up my camera in the lounge before we went out to record a video (time lapse thingy) whilst we were shopping.

Trio (doggy) barked continuously for the hour it was filming.

I always thought she barked for the first 15-20mins only but it doesn't look that way. What prompted me into doing this too was when we went out last weekend, we walked home and got back at 3am. Before reaching our drive I heard a dog barking... and realised it was Trio :/ Picky said it could have been a sixth sense type thing but I wasn't convinced.

What on Earth do we do to try and stop this?

All of last week, throughout the day I've packed up my stuff, got my car keys, locked the doors and then gone to the car, started it, and then come back in.

She's a bit "zomg what you doing" when I come back in but hasn't barked.

I was then going to progress this to reversing out the drive and back in again, then after a while going round the block and back again etc. I've done this before with her though and it hasn't worked but... I just don't know what else to do

Makes me super sad

DEFRA offer this advice sheet thingy: http://www.defra.gov.uk/Environment/...antbarking.pdf

Shame though, poor Trio. Sounds like what you're doing is a good idea tho.

I was just looking at that exact leaflet, but you posted it first.

Best to try the simple things like settling Trio before you leave, making it easy for Trio to understand the difference between walkies and you going out on your own (e.g. different clothes, leaving the lead visible at all times, etc.), leaving a radio on for 'company', closing curtains/blinds at the front of your house so Trio can't see movement outside, etc.

The 'going out and back in' thing probably seemed like play and might be confusing the issue.

There is of course the collar option - but that's best only as a last resort and under supervision of your vet.

Mark - she doesn't think she's going out for walkies She knows when it's walkies time as I don the dirty old shoes It's distress of being left alone (separation anxiety)

The whole going out and back in was something recommended to me by a dog trainer ages ago. You make sure you only do a bit at a time so she doesn't get distressed (as in... build up from seconds to minutes to half an hour etc) and then once you've hit an hour she should be fine. She's grown up with me with her 24/7... so it's all my fault really I should have left her more often.

Will read the linky tomorrow - am tidying up in prep for inlaws at the moment so haven't got the time! Boo. But thanking you muchly

Sorry, I can't help with Trio, but this absolutely fascinates me:
