Golf Clubs

I've started playing golf again. I'm pretty terrible (handicap would be about 40!) but may as well get a complete set rather than hanging on to the mishmash of about 7 clubs I've got (all different models and makes!)

Budget around £200 inc bag if thats possible?

I've heard that either JJB or JD Sports have a European Golf Centre Discount in-store at the moment and that you should be able to get hold of a decent set easily enough for that budget.

I managed to get a full set from Aldis of all places for £75 included bag, trolley, usual kit of tees etc only thing missing i needed was some more golf balls then a pair of golf shoes. By time i added those in i spent about £130-140.

Well I was playing this afternoon and ended up getting some from the club shop before I went out.

for £200 though with a load of balls/tees and gloves thrown in.

Immediately noticed the difference from the rental set though. I took 14 shots off what I got last round. Greened 2 hole and hit a drive 220 yards to the centre of the fairway.

The problem is consistency though. I got a 7 on a par 5 because I fluffed 2 shots completely. Would have got it in par if it weren't for those. I did hit 3 on the first hole though (170 yards). 3 putted on the other one I greened though

I've been out today as well for the first time in a while had had an awesome game, hit some huge balls, like 350 yards

the key to consistency is practice and thats always as simple as that. I've lost consistency after going to uni but can still pull a few decent shots out of the bag. How long you been playing for?

In bits and pieces really. There was a really decent par 3 course near us when I was about 16 we used to do a few times a month. I moved on to proper courses for a bit in my third year at uni, but probably only did about 25 rounds.

When I lived in Portsmouth, I used to go on the odd Sunday. I've probably only done maybe 50 rounds on a full size course though.

I've been going to the driving range on my lunch breaks a couple of times this week an I can generally now hit 8/10 balls properly. I've got a bit of a slice though. Any ideas how to cure it?

ha. every single time you pick up a golf magazine its cover story will be 'this month - how to cure your slice'!

its the most common problem in golf.

Usually I find its because you don't quite realise that you're aligned right of what you think is straight where you want to be.
I'd say you should just try and 'open' up your stance - drop your front foot back a couple of inches and follow this through your hips and shoulders so that you're open to the target.
