Seems the invites are a lot more exclusive than with Google Mail.
By the sounds of it, there's 100,000 initial invitations gone out from Google, and each of those invitees have a further 100 to give out. Those 100 invites contain no further invites and the spread stops dead, unlike Google Mail in which each invite spawned another set. The chances of getting one if you haven't already are quit slim apparently so I'm just going to wait until it goes fully public, shouldn't be too long because they'll risk alienating both parties if they keep the fence up too long. Non-users will want in, and users will want to use it with more people.
