Product code for Microsoft works
New laptop has the basic version of Microsoft works on it, but when I go to type in the product code (which I get from the bottom of the laptop) it says its incorrect. Thing is I got the laptop from Play.com, so who do I ask about what to do?
I can't afford a full version of Microsoft office, but I do kind of need it to do stuff on this laptop. Windows 7 if that makes a difference. |

Will it still let me open people who send me attachments if they have sent it as a word document? They always just used to open on my old laptop with office/works.

Are you using the right code? The stickers on PCs are typically for the operating system. Unless of course MS have started putting Works stickers there too (don't tend to buy PCs with Works installed).
OpenOffice will do the trick, but if you're used to Microsoft products it might take some getting used to. |

Its the only sticker I have, and nothing else came with the laptop that had numbers on it. It says product key on it. (but you are right it does say windows 7 on the sticker) just didn't know where else to look.

That's not the right one then. Did the Works software come on a CD? If so, on the CD wallet or the CD itself is a common choice. Failing that, the documentation pack, and failing that, contact Play as without the code the software may as well be illegal.

Usually on a 'Certificate of Authenticity' or on the cover of a manual, but in any case Office > Works, so hope it works.
