Default Need a new camera strap?

I'm selling on a strap that I bought from Ebay as a tester before I splashed out on a more expensive example.

It's a Quickstrap which is a Chinese knockoff of the Black Rapid, I liked it so much I bought a proper one

Note this is not the strap I have to sell but does show you the concept very well, the Quickstrap has a pocket in the pad which the Black Rapid R7 does not have.

I paid £25 in the end and I'm happy to knock a quid off so £24, if no one here fancies it I'll bung it on TP in a few days

Ooh, clever, and tempted. I don't get on with the Op/Techs I got from TP, so that style would work much better for me.

How does the 'knock-off' compare to the real thing? Does it have 'bumpers', for example? I'm all for comfort so if the real one is much better I'd be inclined just to suck it up and get that, even if it is £55+.

Just as an aside, many years ago I was taught by my Uncle Ron (a professional photographer with many awards to his name) that the first thing you should always do when picking up a camera is to put the strap around your neck just in case the camera should slip from your hand. He told me this on the day I bought my Nikon SLR, this made perfect sense to me and it's something which has stuck with me ever since (except with little compacts of course, but the strap around the wrist concept is just as valid for the same reason).

It really frustrates me to see so many people using what look like big expensive DSLRs with the strap dangling from their hands. The strap is there for a purpose, use the damn thing! It only takes a second to put it around your neck and it could save an awful lot of money if the worst happens.

So, enough of my 'aside' and I'm pleased to see you have a decent strap, MB. I hope you use it

Feek, I never put my camera round my neck. Mainly because I walk around with 2 and they would knock against each other and break it. Also, it weights about 2 kilo each before I put on the flash.....try hanging a 2 Litre bottle of coke off your neck for a day, it will kill ! Shoulders is much easier.

Anyway, if i were to get one, it won't be the blackrapids, as clever as that sounds, that plastic clip puts me off. And this is what i would get http://www.spiderholster.com/

More discrete too with the belt on the waist, not the shoulders.

OK

The Quickshot is a good piece of kit as far as I can see and IF you want to put a camera over your sholder and have the capability to shoot quickly its a good solution. It has an advantage over the Back Rapid that the conector on the bottom of the camera has a screw thread which means you can mount to a tri/monopod without having to remove the strap.

Anyway, it's a reasonable piece of kit, the conectors aren't plastic they are metal and the clip is very sturdy.

I'll put it on TP tomorrow, you guys get first dibs.

Claimed then please. Let me know how you want paying. I'd be happy to be rid of neck straps forever and the socket will be handy for my monopod on the rare occasion I carry it with me.

Strap has been received and well and truly broken in. Didn't take many photos, but had the strap on for 5 hours without getting annoyed with it. Thanks!

That's good, I'm pleased its working for you, it actually has more bits and bobs than the Black Rapid, pockets etc and I think it was really good value. I'm such a label whore

Don't think I'll be using the pocket, but having the extra tripod/monopod connector could be useful. Only worry I've had so far is bashing the camera (somehow feels a bit more vulnerable just dangling there).

It does but once you start to trust the rig a little more you'll find that you keep the camera in the small of your back which makes you less likely to catch it on things.
