Getting the hang of the new camera a bit, although some came out dark and had to be tweaked. Think I'm metering incorrectly but half way through 'Understanding Exposure' so hoping all will become clear

I don't think it's my screen here but it looks to me like your camera is doing exactly what mine does when it's presented with very light and very dark in the same picture. It's overexposing the whites and underexposing the darks.
In the menus look for some settings called Parameters. I found the default one has the contrast cranked up and I'm pretty sure this is what causes the problem. I haven't had a chance to play with the settings yet but you can turn the contrast and saturation down in that setting.

I'll have a look Jonny, thanks. Those have had the levels tweaked quite considerably as they were all too dark. I am going to do some tests with the cam when I have a bit of time.
