Hilo
My folks have been out here for the past week or so. Kari and I decided we'd go with them for a 4 day weekend on Hilo, trusty cameras in hand. I've finally ponied up the cash and bought some Eneloop batteries. What a difference they make. For some climate related reason I haven't figured out yet, rechargeable batteries just do not hold their charge here whether they're in use or not, to almost comical extent. At first I thought it was just a bad charger, but even devices with dedicated batteries lose power faster, especially in between uses. Mum even noticed it on her little Lumix camera.
Eneloop batteries lasted quite happily with the photographs and video clips I took, they've been good for 2 weeks now which is nearly a record for me with rechargable AAs here. For the most part my Canon A720 IS did a good job, but as the weekend progressed and the range of situations I was photographing expanded, I started finding a few more frustrations. In the Tropical Rain Forest Botanical Gardens it attempted to over-expose almost every single photograph I went to take. In the end I had to manually knock the exposure down a couple of notches, something which thankfully I can do on this "point-and-shoot" with a bit extra. I've tried to pick up a few bits that I've seen peeps here do with their photographs, but mostly I don't think I've developed an eye for it yet Kari and I will probably be in the market for an entry level DSLR or appropriate Micro 4/3rds at some point soon I think, something that will give us that extra control and flexibility. A few photographs I'm happiest with: ("Pink Quill", Tillandsia Cyanea Bromeliaceae)

GP ReCyko hold their charge. It's their main selling point. I've found them to be very dependable

Very nice shots - I'd definitely say you have indeed developed "any eye for it". Particularly like the composition on the second shot.
Use Eneloops myself for my flash - they're very well regarded and worth the money IMO.
