Default Buying a new telly

I'm planning on buying a new telly for the new flat. I've pretty much settled on this one. It's the LG 50PK350 50" Full HD Plasma TV. £599 from Currys but, if I order before 29th October, I get £35 off and 3% cashback from Quidco - making the actual price only £546 with free delivery.

It seems to be just what I need. It has received a lot of good reviews (including on AVForums). The only negatives I have seen are that the screen can be a bit reflective and suffers a bit from image retention - neither of which will bother me. Also, there is no internet connectivity and only 2 HDMI slots (one of which is on the side) and it only has standard freeview, not HD. None of these things will be missed. I won't be plugging that many devices into it and I don't need youtube on my telly. I'll be getting an HD V+ box so won't need freeview HD.

All in all, I think it's a bargain - £546 for a 50" telly.

The purpose of the thread is to check that no-one else has any better deals they have spotted before I pull the trigger. If you have, I have until Friday.

I looked at the same TV in Richersounds a couple of months back when I needed a new TV and ended up walking out with a 47" LCD at the same price (£599) as I thought the picture quality was a bit better.

LG 47LD450 in case you want to look it up. Either way I think you'll be happy.

I'd check richersounds out too, the 10% for a 5 year guarantee always appealed to me as my previous big box TVs died after 6 months / 2 years.

Got one from RS last March and is still working a treat.

Looks like £589 at RS, I doubt they'll match the voucher and quidco tho.

She's ordered

Delivery booked for 13:00-16:00 on Friday 5th November (that's the day I'll be moving into the new flat). Virgin engineer is booked for 13:00-18:00 - hopefully the telly will arrive first so the Virgin engineer can hook it straight up.

Had to pay an extra tenner to guarantee delivery in a particular slot but I'm on a tight schedule that day and need to know when things are happening so I can plan other stuffs. Decided against Currys' kind offer to attach the TV to the stand for me - I thought £40 was perhaps a tad excessive for bunging in a couple of screws I'm fairly confident I'll manage that myself.

Please be careful doing that. That's one heck of a piece of glass so I expect it'll weigh a fair bit. There's no way I could lift my 43in on my own.

Just checked the specifications and it's only 28.6kg (31kg with stand) - Should be no problem for a rough, tough oil rig worker

I got the 50" LG PK590 about 3 months ago and it shares a lot with the 350 so I think you'll be very happy.

Now, it will be bigger and heavier than you think it will but I did manage to get it out the box, lift it and move it around on my own and you sound a big strong lad (like me) so you'll be ok. When it came to wall mounting it I did need a 2nd pair of hands though.

I looked at the 50PK590 but the only real differences I could see were; THX, HD freeview, NetCast, DLNA and 4 HDMI inputs instead of 2.

THX - I doubt if I'll miss this.
HD Freeview - Mine will be connected to a Virgin HD box.
NetCast - I can live without - TV will be connected to a PC anyway.
DLNA - Might have come in handy.
HDMI inputs - unlikely to need more than 2 but, if I do, I'll get a splitter.

All in all, THX and DLNA would have been nice to have but I won't miss them enough to pay another £150.

I am a big strong lad so I don't see 30kg being a major problem. I'll just make sure to take some precautions like padding the area etc.

The 64" plasma screens I used in the O2 weighed 75kg! 30kg will be a breeze!

My girlfriend is after a TV. Any recommendations for a 32" for about £300?

I've seen a few LED LGs which look good on richersounds. She wants to order from them preferably.
