need some buying halps
so, my good lady has decided that she'd like a nice DSLR for chrimbo. she's quite taken by the 450D due to the image stabilization that wasn't in the 400 apparently as she has an interest in macro photographising at some point.
i really have a budget of £350, so know i'm kinda scraping the barrel. doesn't have to be new, so can hopefully make the most of it that way. would i be best getting a body only and cheap lens, or just get the body and kit lense, or just crying into my tea that i can't afford it and she can just get a lump of coal for christmas? FANKS

Would you consider second hand? That way you could get her a decent cam & lens.
Edit: Now I've read properly I can see you will! If I was you I'd head over to talk photography and see what kind of prices you're looking at. FYI, before I got my 40d I had a 105mm sigma on a 400D (which if you're lucky you could pick up for around £400 for both and I did mostly macro pics. Leo uses it now & he also prefers macro - you can pay extra for IS on the lenses.

That's the sort of money I would be looking for for my 450D when I sell it (which I'm planning on doing in a week or two). I need to clean it up a bit first but I believe the camera itself to be in good nick. I say believe because I haven't checked for dust on the sensor yet.
450D body, kit lens (18-55 IS), whatever else is still in the box (hopefully the manuals), third party grip, second genuine battery. 18 months old (still covered by extended warranty). About 12,000 activations. |

Can't grumble at getting one 'new' for that. I'll stick it on TP once I've had chance to sort everything out.
