Dancing and things...
A thread for all the dancers out there, from poley pole to tip tappity toe dancing!
A few months back I started doing Burlesque dancing which scared the pants off me (not literally although that would have probably been a good start really considering ) But yeh, thought screw it and was dragged along by a friend and it's absolutely hilarious! Nothing like what I thought. Very much tamer and just silly dance routines and learning how to kerfuffle about in heels. Performed in a charity gig a few weeks back which raised £1800 (yaaaaaaay) and despite absolutely bricking it, I'll be doing it again! I tell you what though, I will never listen to Santa Baby in the same light again!! Because I like it so much, I want to be able to better myself a bit in my dancing skills sooo... after talking with a few dance teachers I'm taking up Ballet! For whoever knows me, the two above (considering the issues I have had for a number of years and my personality) are most probably the two LEAST likely things you would put me against. Me... ballet?! Tall, long uncoordinated limbs, very little dancing skills, not stick skinny (particularly after chrimbo) and silly. I foresee much comedy in my lessons! Feel free to point and laugh! I'm half tempted to video record each lesson because I just think it's going to be sheer comedy! My eventual aim is to get enough skills to be able to perform decent fun burlesque routines with magic! I think it could be a winning combination! I've already played about with a more serious routine which involves Muse - Time Is Running Out and getting out of a straight jacket. Needs a lot of work and playing with but it's going to look awesome! Fun times! So! I will update with dancingness as I go along when I can! Burlesque wise, this week we've been told to bring washing up gloves, a pinny and a feather duster! Ooo Err Missus! Hahahaha! Should be a laugh! |

My ex is a ballerina. She trained at Rambert school of ballet when it was part of Brunel, moved abroad and now has a permanent contract with Norwegian National Ballet. I haven't spoken to her for years but she was originally strictly classical ballet and does a bit of contemporary dance now. I got roped into dancing once, a charity ballet. I wasn't very good though, I simply wasn't strong enough to haul her around and I couldn't remember choreography to save my life

Sounds like fun Pheebs.
I started burlesque a few weeks ago and I'm loving it. We did a performance on our final week of beginners class - just to the rest of the class, and my tutor couldnt find anything about my routine to criticise, although I know I can improve it. Our next performance is Feb 4th and I will be auditioning for a place. If I get through, I might even invite some of you along

I did disco and ballroom for years and years, took a shed load of exams, won trophies in competitions, did dance shows and presentations... I miss dancing
Took up salsa dancing a while back, but then moved away and havent found another one since, was brilliant for keeping fit and toning up. Would love to give burlesque a try, but again, dont think there is anywhere nearby that does it |

Yeah I did all the Latin and Ballroom exams too... won loads of medals. Miss it and doing the shows.
I tried Salsa but couldn't help doing Latin instead to the music i.e. other Latin not Salsa. Tried CeRoc too but couldn't get on with that either.... to the Googlez!! BB x |
