Rant - how can a 'prestige' car rust so freaking much

I picked up a W210 7 seater estate last year with the intention of making it a touch better locking (it has sone slight surface rust issues on a couple of panels)....but.....**** me - had it up on stands on Sunday for a pre MOT check and its got 2 huge holes UNDER the underseal....OK...I know the W210 wasnt Mercs finest hour with rust, but for this to be hiding in the areas I poked and prodded was a total WTF moment
Dreading looking further now - chuffing cars do my head in at the minute
