It's about an experiment carried out years ago with college students in a purpose built prison, some playing guards and others the inmates. It shows how each of them changed along the way and how they reacted to the situation they found themselves in and how it all became very real to them. It's an interesting read.

I watched a German film recently called Das Experiment which was based on an actual experiment that was done similar to what you describe above.

It is subtitled

and actually not a bad film.

Ahhh it was one of my many case studies in Psychology! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
