MOT misery
Car failed it's MOT today - badly. Gonna cost over £600 to get it through.
All discs and pads need replacing and it turns out all the springs have been cut to lower the car and don't fit properly (funny how they've been like that for at least the last 3 MOTs but no-one has picked up on it until now). Managed to get the price down a bit by sourcing the parts myself. Ordered all the brake parts and a set of proper, Tein lowering springs from Camskill. Still gonna get shafted on labour though

The springs were probably the tester being a ****. You'd know by now if they weren't seating properly.
I feel your woeZ. Mine failed the other week on a kingpin and rear tyres. Like-for-like rear tyres are £275+vat each, kingpins are about £150/pair plus I've got to change it all myself

I went down and had a look myself. When the car was on the ramp, the springs were completely loose and could easily lift out of the lower cup things. If I'd gone over any bumps a bit too rapidly, they could possibly have slipped out. If I'd known they were like that, I'd have changed them ages ago.

Don't feel bad Stan. My Jeep wouldn't pass an MOT no matter how much I spent.
No seat belts, no reverse lights, no parking brake indicator, no windscreen defroster, no rear fogs, rear turn signals are the brake lights. Oh, and just for giggles, that's how it came from the factory.

The MOT doesn't backdate it's requirements. If it wasn't fitted when new you don't need it to pass. Additionally, reversing lights are not a requirement at all.
