I know a few of us have invites/accounts. Anyone else got invites but unable to access? Thought we could have a thread on here for discussion & to keep up to date with developments!

I'm on it, but after checking it out, haven't been back. A few nice ideas, but a bit pointless. I can't see mass flocking from Facebook and without 98% of friends using it, it's pointless.

I've got an invite, have had since Friday but can't get in. As I said on twitter, Google really likes to make you feel like the fat kid in the playground.
Google: LOOK AT US DUUUUUUDES HAVING SO MUCH FUN? WANNA JOIN IN? DO YOU? GO ON TH....OOOPS! NO YOU CAN'T JOIN IN. Me: But...I wanna Google: you need an invite. Me: But... I have an invite Google: You have an invite? *looks at invite, rips it up and throws it in my face* OH! Well, you're still NOT COMING IN..NERRRR! Then when you eventually do get in, it's all gone tits up and everyone's gone home. #GoogleWave

I'm on it and using it. It's kinda cool. Invites seems broken though. I know one of the Service Reliability Engineers at google who's working on it, and I know he was working on logging in problems on friday. With any luck fixes should come soon. They also couldn't google-scale quite that fast with the application, the demand was way higher than anything they anticipated (or have seen before).
The main problem with Google Wave wasn't so much the delay in people getting to use it... it was that most people didn't actually have a use for it. Very interesting tool, and I know people are actually using it, but seriously, how many people would work on collaborative documents like that? It was a solution looking for a problem.

This summed it up pretty well for me:

Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped writing about other things and made this your signature, yours could be like mine. Look down, back up. Where are you? You're on Boat Drinks, reading the signature your signature could be like. I'm on a computer. |

Well they had to do something different. Using 'invites' as a means of creating exclusivity and therefore demand for a service doesn't work as well as it used to. This time they've gone with needing an invite just to have a chance of joining, but then still needing some luck to get in. That'll really get people wanting to join!

Well, this is Google's third social network. Will this work any better than the last two? Not sure, but it isn't looking so good if the bouncers are throwing their weight around before you even get in the door!
Anyway, I can only cope with one social network, and it took me long enough to get comfortable with the idea of Facebook, so sorry Google. |
