Default quick question CS or Lightroom for Canon 5D processing

Been a while since i last used photoshop so lost track after CS3 so not sure what way to go now when i get my 5D MKII in the next week or so.

I know the general workings of photoshop so just wondering if for general photo processing and not getting too fancy with my workflow if i should look for a copy of Lightroom or a copy of CS5 with the usual bells and whistles i sortof know. Any advice will be appreciated

I have started using lightroom and am slowly getting to grips with all the bits and I would actually say I'm seriously considering ditching photoshop and using lighroom.

What platform are you after lightroom on?

They are complementary programs that do different things.

Lightroom is a batch RAW processing tool.

Photoshop is an in depth image editor.

I find myself using Lightroom more than Photoshop these days but for certain pictures, Lightroom often lacks the complexity and depth I desire.

Well I've spent the last 2 hours or so playing around with lightroom and only had to use photoshop once to remove a glass from a table. I can probably do this in lightroom but don't currently know how.

It's normally once I want to start doing stuff with layers that I move to PS rather than LR.

For your general processing, Lightroom (or Aperture on MacOS) is brilliant. It's not really a replacement for what Photoshop is and can do though.

Thats a job for photoshop.

LR is 99% for developing a photo. If you ever used an enlarger in a darkroom then you know what I am on about. It's dodge, burn, expose etc. Don't expect to move objects around and stuff, you can't.

Cheers Mondo I didn't think it was something I could do in Lightroom but just thought I'd ask the question. Been really impressed with Lightroom so far

You can always

Right click (bottom photo thumbnail bar), edit - in PS

Then do your stuff in PS

Then just click File - Save

Then go back to LR, you will see a photo of the EXACT same thing but edited in PS show up, it will be a TIFF file.

So now you have a Photoshopped photo, and back in LR.
