Computer Help Needed
Hey guys,
I am considering getting a new laptop for my mom as an early Birthday and Christmas present as hers is as slow as a snail and as I checked last night only has a 60gig hard drive and 512 MB of RAM!! So I have had a look online and two that I have come across which look decent to me are :- Dell Inspiron and Compaq From what I can gather the Compaq will be better due to the Motherboard being 1.77GHZ? I would really appreciate any input or any other laptop suggestions. She basically only needs it for the internet and possibly connecting it to the telly however that isn't crucial.

After a quick look the processors look a bit crappy on both of them.
After another quick search/look I found this i3 for 339 quid from Tesco. http://www.tesco.com/direct/acer-573...169&pageLevel= Acer are not the Strongest made laptops in the World but if your |Ma is only using at home I'm sure it would do her fine. Hopefully a few other people can suggest other alternatives. Got a Massive headache today & I've been sick so my searches are not as strong as usual. Just found this at the Dell Outlet + Inspiron 15 - N5040 Inspiron 15 - N5040 Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core P6200 (2.13GHz, 3M Cache) Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (1 DIMMs) 500 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM) 8X DVD+/- RW Drive Display: 15.6in High Definition (1366X768) WLED LCD Panel Graphics: Intel HD Graphics English Genuine Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium (64Bit OS) Back Up Media Not Included Wireless : Dell Wireless 802.11g/n LCD Back Cover : Obsidian Black 6 Cell Primary Battery, 48W 230 quid http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/I...did=7&fid=1374 Last edited by Justsomebloke; 06-04-2012 at 12:06. |

P6200 is a few generations old now (launched Summer 2010), but it'll still be a solid performer and worth a punt at that price, unless you want to do anything graphics intensive (crappy old-generation Intel HD, sadly). As it's Dell Outlet though, it may be gone by now and I don't recall what warranty coverage is available from them.
Acer is fine, or this similar HP for £40 less if you can stand pink... http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavi...90901-pdt.html |

Thanks guys Sorry for the delayed post, busy time at the minute.
JSB, the Acer looks good, wasn't sure whether they were good brands or not which is why I discounted them. Not keen on getting a refurbished laptop even if it is a dell! Mark, Thanks, unfortunately I don't think either me or my mom could stand pink. So is a Intel processor better than an AMD dual core processor? Also are Packard Bell laptops any good?
