I have the non-L non-IS 100mm F2.8 macro and it is awesome, so I expect this beastie to be beyond awesomeness. Congratulations on your new arrival

Yeah I nearly bought that one a few times when I saw them up for sale but alas I'm addicted to the little red ring like a moth to a flame

Oh, and from my initial playings around, I can't get over how shallow the DoF is at f/2.8!!! Literally any fore or aft movement at all after locking focus and you've lost it - can see why so many people use tripods!

Try using it with extension tubes... DOF is literally millimeters

I use a flash & diffuser with mine so that I can bump it up to F8.0 or so and still get a quick shutter speed. Most of my macro photography is outside, so you have the wind to contend with, which means a fast shutter speed and a larger DOF to cope with movement. You still get fantastic bokeh with macro shots at F8.0, but it makes the lens more usable at close range.
