iphone upgrade O2
So its time for my upgrade and I am looking for a good deal here, using quidco to try and minimise expense.
I have a 16gig 3GS at the moment and am paying £15.50 a month, but I fear the phone may not cope with another years use. O2 contracts only become reasonable if tied into a 24 month contract, and for £299 I can get the 16 gig 4Gs but at £18.50 a month. Thats £444 + £299 = £743 for 2 years phone use. As a comparison, an unlocked 4gs from Apple is £499 and I can go pay as you go and top up £10 a month. after 2 years, thats £499 + £240 = £740 (-£10 cashback from quidco) but this gives more data allowance - although I am unlikely to worry much about this, and I am not tied to a contract. In both cases, I can get £75 from o2 recycle on my old 3gs. I really dont know what to do! Any ideas? |

You don't want to hang on a few months until the new iphone comes out, because that means that either you can get the new iphone, or get the 4S cheaper, as when the new phone comes out, the price on the older phones usually drops?
Theres a part of me that wishes I had held on and not upgraded from the 4 to the 4S, because the difference is minimal. |

On a serious note, 24 months contracts are a joke. Paying more than £20 for a contract is also daft (unless you need it or you get your money's worth of course). So I think the PAYG is the best option, but it's a painful price for the phone - and is it worth it?
How much money would you get back for the 3GS?

S3 is 28.50 a month (24 months yes) with orange on panther 31 through dial-a-phone right now. £70.70 cashback with topcashback. 1Gb internet (literally superb) 600mins unlimited texts, two orange swapables, orange wednesdays and orange magic number!
As much as I HATE contracts esp at 2 years, I can't work out an S3 cheaper. Cheapest sim free i've seen an S3 is £450. Assuming I get a half decent SIM only plan around £10 a month (but could grab cashback, so we'll average say £7? THE very best deal I can imagine) Thats around £90 a year only the contract so assuming you keep the S3 for two years (I've kept my S1 for two years easy ) then thats £(180+450)/24 per month which I believe is around £26 but you do have to stump up £450 in one lump sum first to save around £25 a year.... As I said normally i'd be SIM free, but the SIM free price the S3 is commanding its reeeeaallllly hard to justify it! I've been holding off (not long ) hoping the price would drop something but it's barely budged! So in summary I'd say S3 on orange with DAP £28.50 a month |

For the last couple of years we've bought our phones outright and just use PAYG. Works out much cheaper for us in the long run as we're very light users.

I can get 250 for my Super-iPhone so will be able to put that towards the s3. I'd I do For a contract I can get the orange 21 PCM contract for under £18 which covers 100 mins 750meg and 500txts owing to corporate discounts. The PAYG is tempting though.
