Default Crunch time: Mondeo needing DMF!

So the time has come - my poorly Mondeo needs DMF/Clutch/Starter at around £1,000 which is quite frankly a lot of money to keep a ****ty diesel on the road. I do < 8000 miles a year and I simply don't need it.

Its tax is also due at the end of this month which seems like an ideal time to bin it which is a bit of a shame since I've had a fair chunk of work carried out recently.

That said my budget for replacement would be much the same as the as the repair....that in mind I had a look today and saw this:

http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-m...ry-item-full-3

Seemingly done average miles over it's 12 years, looks in good nick, advert appears to have been written by someone literate and had a whole bunch of work carried out on it recently.

Downsides are (obviously) faulty passenger window, short tax and 8 different owners - what's wrong with it that so many people have passed on it?

I spoke to the owner who purchased it off his father (2 owners explained) and it's been in the family for 2 and a bit years which is a good sign at least I'm thinking?

Anyone else care to weigh in on the ramblings of a mad man looking to change cars? Off to have a look on Saturday for something to do

8 owners isn't an excessive amount in 12 years really, works out at an average of 1.5 years ownership per person, nothing startling.

The Toledo looks a nice enough car, essentially a Golf with a different badge and a boot, but be aware that the V5 drinks like there is no tomorrow especially given the relative lack of performance it offers. They sound lovely though, very interesting exhaust note.

Economy isn't a worry since I'm averaging less than 6k per year right now!

However I gave it a miss as I managed to get mine in for all the work it needs for £934 and as my old folks keep saying 'Better the devil you know...'

Still something to consider for the future

I did actually write out a part of that post regarding 'better the devil you know' but got rid of it because the Toledo was nicer looking that I expected it to be and you seemed kinda like you just wanted a change anyway

Oh I do want a change but I also have some whopping big bills inbound too. Once they are paid up it's changing time
