Canvas from 35mm film
Hello!
In my flat I much rather have pictures/paintings that either I have created rather than just bought for the sake of it. One of the things I wanted to have done is a split canvas in the lounge, the previous occupant had a beach scene which gave me the idea of recreating my own. Those who would have seen my sig over the other side would have seen that it was a pic of the last Fatboy gig in 2002. Thing is I took this before my days of digital and its only on 35mm film. My question to all you graphics/photo buffs out there is whether or not you think it would be able to go onto canvas at approx A3 size on three sections. (A3 would be the height - not sure of the width). Hurrah! I found the negs here, am going to risk going into Brighton on weds to see if it can be done, but thought would ask here first BB x |

a 35mm can be wasily blown up to A3, the question is how sharp is the orginal image. The lens used, camera shake, depth of field, amount of noise, the film used (grain size/quality). All these affect the outcome, but a 35mm when use well is about 11/12million pixels.

Thanks for your replies guys
A3 would be the height so the picture is going to be pretty big. I don't think I am too bothered about pixelation too much - just as long as you can see what it is. Judging by the factors that you have listed, it isn't a great photo, but still I guess I will just have to see what they say when they take it in. Cheers BB x |

I ordered and received my canvas today... size is correct - the biggest thing I was worrying about tbh. But it turns out that they have used the wrong negative.
The quality is rubbish because it is camera phone and the image isn't great anyway.. but still I am able to tell its the wrong picture I am a fussy ghet but I was extrememly particular about which neg they were to use. Anyway... am emailing them to see if they will re-do without me paying anymore and if not am going to ask for a discount. Well annoying. Think I found a website who will make my clock too \o/ thing is do I trust them to do a good job? :undecided: Again it is very specific and I haven't seen any on sale, it is a round face with Roman numerals and metal leaves around the edge of the clock face and sprawling NSEW. Anyway will see what they quote, but haven't got time to do a sketch with dimensions till I get back from SF BB x |

Is there a way you could scan in the photo and then use photoshop to styelise the pic in some way. You'd not have the problems with quality then. I'll see if I can dig out an example of what I mean.

e.g. I created these pics...
...from normal photos. They'll scale up to any size without any loss of quality. Might not be what you're after, but it's another option

Looks good to me, where did you get that done? I love the canvas style and over 3 pictures like that, would love to have something like that here. My parents had a canvas done of the children from a photo and it came out really well.
