Default Donnie Darko

I watched this last night and thought it'd be interesting to hear other peoples views on it. I LOVED it. The ending has left me a little perplexed as there are a couple of ways of interpreting it I guess and I worry that I haven't 'got' it when it's not a plain as day ending. And the soundtrack is BRILLIANT!

And thanks muchly to MB...it wasnt even unwrapped!

I've watched it once so far and felt no desire to watch it again yet, I just got the feeling it was trying to be a bit too clever for its own good but it was well produced and directed.

I felt the same. I understood the ending as I interpreted it, but it did feel like they set out to confuse the viewer. That's why I don't like David Lynch films either.

Someone on OCUK once explained it in a thread about Donnie Darko; to really 'get' the film you need to have read the book referenced in the film. Something to do with Donnie being a time traveller, he's jumped back in time to an earlier self and can take a guide with him to ensure he fixes the hole in time to stop a paradox (the rabbit is his guide, the hole in time was what the jet engine fell through). As part of his fixing thing he gains control over elements (hence the fire, water etc) and so on

Hmmm that changes my understanding of the film quite a bit. Still loved it though, I didnt get a sense of smart for smarts sake, but its horses for course I guess

Try The Butterfly Effect if you liked that, I vowed I would never watch it again but it is a good movie.
