Default Vista/Suse dual boot

I've ordered Vista premium for my gaming rig. It's currently a dual boot system running XP Home in dual boot with Suse 10.2.

I am changing the motherboard so I won't be able to use the current OEM XP, so I decided to try Vista. The rig will easily be able to run it - the spec is:

Q6600 quad core CPU, 2Gb pc8500 RAM, 320Gb HDD, BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2.

The hard drive has 3 partitions - 1 has the Suse installation and 1 has the Windows installation, the other is formatted as NTFS for use with Windows (mostly games).

My question is:
Will I just be able to replace the XP installation with Vista and keep the Suse installation as it is or will I have to start from scratch and re-install Suse after Vista?

Stan

Vista will take control of the bootloader, you'll have to manually replace it yourself (Grub is it in Suse? cant remember), but it'll be fine after that. I think there's a recovery option on the Suse CD that'll sort it.

Yes it is Grub.

The recovery option on the CD sounds handy.

Thanks Daz

No worries Had to do the same with my Ubuntu install on the laptop after upgrading it to Vista, didnt use any automated recovery but it worked just the same, and Grub can handle Vista so no problems there.

May I ask a stupid question but what is the attraction of running a Linux over XP/Vista?

Honestly? For me, power. Linux systems dont try and fight me when I tell it to do something, and although you can turn some of the cotten wool off, largely it feels like I have to fight doze when I try to do something it thinks I shouldn't, or even some mundane things. Then there's the obvious cost benefits.

Though as I've said before, I couldn't live/work without either to hand.

I guess I'll have to give it go just to see I suppose.. A friend of mine swears by it.. You recommend OpenSuse?

Nay, I recommend Ubuntu for very nearly all desktop uses, n00b or otherwise

I use Ubuntu on all the rest of my dual boot rigs. The only reason I have Suse on this one is because, for some odd reason, it point blank refuses to let me install Ubuntu
