Default Deus Ex

Absolutely loved this game all those years ago!

Hated the sequel, so what games should I look out for that play like the original? Someone mentioned Vampire Bloodlines to me, any other ideas?

I haven't played a game all the way through for a long time, they just haven't inspired me. I bought Fahrenheit, and tbh it was pretty good, but I don't know didn't seem to be what I was after, I’m not entirely sure what I’m after if I’m honest! Also I was redecorating at the time, so didn't really have time to get into it, I probably wasn't fair on it.

I've not played the sequel simply because of the horrendous reviews and opinions of those that played it, loved the original though. I'm surprised no-one's released anything even remotely similar since its conception. The Splinter Cell games are probably the closest I've come to a similar experience but that's because I played Deus Ex in a stealth mode, as is my preference.

Whilst Fahrenheit was OK in that it had basic puzzle solving elements to it and you could do things your own way (kind of), I got pretty fed up of the 'press the buttons in sequence' motif after about ten minutes. The thing that annoyed me most about Fahrenheit though was that it was basically a two-hour game padded out to about ten. One weekend, after I'd got one character to get up, go to the toilet, take a shower, get dressed, and have a cup of coffee, I realised that I'd just made him do all the things I could have been doing instead of playing such a dull game. Nice concept overall though, but I won't be playing it again. Shame really as the first scene in the diner was superb and had me papping it every time the cop got up and the timer started! Took me about five goes to get out of there.

Yeah I kind of got bored of it because of the buttons stuff. Was a refreshing idea though. Played the first two splinter cell games. What are we upto now,and are they worth it now the X-Box got its grubby hands on it? It ruined Deus Ex

If you've played the first two then the one you're missing is Chaos Theory. It's worth getting if you liked the first two but is possibly my least favourite of the three. I think 1 and 3 were made by one company and 2 and the upcoming 4 are by someone else. Unfortunately this means that some of the improvements made between 1 and 2 never made it into 3, but hopefully that'll be rectified in the new one. Now I have the dilemma of getting it on PC or Xbox 360.

I'll skip 3 then, it didn't look that appealing if i'm honest but i don't know why, maybe i'm growing tired of it? I've grown pretty tired of the whole game industry if i'm honest. I really need something to inspire me, Deus Ex was the last game that really moved me, it's spine tingling at some points playing it again, and the title sequence is awesome .

I think i might just play DX again

Ah found your thread now after the post in the music one.

I'm actually about to start it again today after not playing it for over 4 years! Should be a bit better on this machine than my uni machine.

I think there was a hi res textures mod if you look around for that, because you'll probably be able to use them and turn everything up too

bah got logged out and it lost the post

check out www.planetdeusex.com on the single player missions, there are the 1st/2nd/3rd results for a map challenge sponsored by ION. I also remember a hi res pack, can't find it though. If you find it can you post a link?
