Laptop Dilema, warranty stuff, choices help!
Right next problem, recently i managed to get an RS-MMC card (mobile MMC whatever you want to call it!) stuck in my laptop when the adaptor broke off trying to get it out.
Phoned up dell, and my warranty ran out the day before, but they were willing to help. Turns out to "repiar" this i'd have to replcae the motherboard! So i asked the guy could i give it the beans with a knife and see what i can do with the premise that i'll still get it replaced if i botch it... yes was the anser. They dude was really nice, first time ive ever done any dell warranty stuff, and i couldn't have had a better experience so far. He took my mobile number and he's rang me twice to check on things too its cool. But anyway i managed to get the card out, and it still reads MMC SD (same thing anyway right?) and the MS duo line of cards. But i've broken the xD connectors it appears all it wants to do is format a perfect working memory card... I don't really ever use xD and i'm wondering is it worth chancing this and getting the whole mobo repaced (literally tomorrow on site how cool) just for this one little thing. This is my last chance. That sounds great but the dilema is, i know this laptop is perfect now (apart from xD), if i get the motherboard replaced with a duff one then im totally screwed, because im out of warranty. So BD what do i do :undecided: ... help i need to decided today before he rings me back (otherwise i will be totally honest with him and ask him what he thinks, he is a VERY nice chappy). Danke! |

Unless you're pedantic about everything perfect, then if you don't need the slot, don't bother. If you need xD in future, get a USB reader. Is it worth risking over a £10 component?
Having said that, Dell service are good, but if the laptop is out of warranty I'd imagine you'll get a refurb. Only time I've had stuff go wrong is when they're having supply issues (cancelled an order and went elsewhere last week - 2nd time that's happened). |

He said it would be a new mobo, and its brought to my house tomorrow and replaced in front of me, so it would still be my laptop apart from the mobo (which i imagine i would see as sealed and being opened here...?
Its annoying my that i know it doesn't work even if i'll never use that dying memory format ... This is why its a dilemma. To compound the issue, my power connector is a bit wobbly like all dells after a month or two lol, if i changed the mobo i gues that would be new too, which would be nice, but thats not a problem either! hmmmm |

My power connector isn't wobbly after four years. What are you doing to it?
If you want it fixed, then get it fixed. I'd imagine Dell would offer a short warranty on the repair (you ought to check that). |

I've read its a pretty common problem, its not wobbly as such, but its definately not as secure as it used to be...
I have no idea what to do, i'll see if he phones, he may not do, if hes nice enough to phone i'll talk to him and may take him up on it. He did say he'd phone later today and has been true to his word so far... We'll see |

Well, it's your laptop. Only you can make that choice.

Right he just phoned, awesome guy, i decided its pointless I couldn't thank him enough though, absolutely super service! Could have someone here tomorrow on site to replace it! I've a number to phone about possible warranty extension though (although they don't technically do it but it worth a shot). If i can have customer service like that for another year or two without a doubt i'd pay for it. I really can't arse lick them enough atm, ive had some good service but this tops it all. Anyone (Daz probably) who deals with dell regulary are they always like this? lol

The center based in Scotland is awesome, however the indian branch isn't. I think the scottish based one deals with corp style stuff.

He was based in ireland, can tell by the phone number he phoned me back on and his thick irish accent, love it on women
I assume by calling generic cutomer service's for this warranty extension as opposed to XPS premium i'm going to get through to Delhi yeah? Haha Quick check on my service tag: 2CSWT2J suggests i've got a fair while left on my warranty? He said it ran out yesterday? I can extend it online too, whats going on here? i love dell but their website confuses the hell out of me... |
