There was a skip being collected at Chelmsford station this morning and the lorry collecting had to take the skip up over the path. A workman stopped people from walking under it but a woman. clearly in a rush carried on and walked right under it.. Like a load of lambs, others followed.. I have to say I was stunned and nearly came off my bike.. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing
![]() Then, just after I nearly fell off my bike in disbelief what I just saw, some dozzy woman parked her car up on a pedestrian crossing (on the zig-zags) to drop of her kids off. This blocked off any chance of people crossing the roads safely. Doughnuts!

Yes Huddy, I'm afraid people really are that stupid.
In my line of work we regularly hear stories of dropped objects injuring or killing people, many of them dropped from cranes. Despite this, we still see, on a daily basis, people who would rather risk their lives walking under a load than waiting for a minute for the load to pass. On the rig, we operate a scheme called "look up and live", which basically means, if you exit onto the deck area or turn around a corner, you look up before proceeding to check for overhead loads. If you see an overhead load, you are supposed to either wait until the danger has passed or find an alternative route to where you are going. It's surprising how many, apparently, crush proof people we have on board the rig.

Just tuck and roll, that's how I avoid most danger.

I presume thats the whacking great big blue skip they had there?
It is just like the Farringdon station every time I go home. Upon walking down the stairs I look up and check the next Algate train, then walk to the end of the platform. Every single day I am the only one who stands there, and we are talking a good 4 carriages gap between me and the length of the circle line trains. I get to sit down with the 4 other people or so in the carriage, they get to be rammed against the doors barely able to move. |

That pretty much sums it up.
![]() Walking under a skip is pure stupidity but that said, I would walk under a ladder without worrying provided no-one was on it above me because I'm not all that superstitious. It is about evaluating risks, if not walking under a ladder means stepping out into a busy road then I'd take my chances with the ladder but if it isn't going to make any odds then I'd probably step around the ladder because of the risk of something falling being greater.

And both instances were caused by women? And you're surprised?
