Car Park politics...
Hiya!
So we have an underground car park at work and I've started riding my shiny red scooter in and needed a pass to get in - no problem. The trouble started when I tried to find a space, no one wants to help! At first Facilities told me to either find someone with a large bay to share with or use my suggestion of a little spot in between two pillars out of the way of any cars - which I did. So yesterday a tannoy goes out and basically I've been threatened to have my scooter removed as its 'illeagaly parked'! Huh? Anyway, I end up riding over to a local hotel and sticking it on the footpath while I find another space, which seems to be impossible! Apparently the spaces are controlled by the Secretariat (PAs basically) team so I ask them if they can tell me who has bays X, Y and Z as there's loads of room in them. They then point me to the director of HR who tells me sharing isn't encouraged and refuses to help, even though other people do it! People are so anal about parking spaces and I'm having so much trouble parking my little scooter its ridiculous, I could put it under my desk if it fit in the lift! I don't want to leave it in a hotel car park in the rain and open to theft when there's tons of room right on my doorstep, its easier to park in the West End! /Rant - Have a nice Friday! |

Our department have one space to share between 3 or 4 of us who drive in so we have had to divvy up the days. I got Thurs and Fri and luckily we have another unofficial spot across the other side of the site so I pop it in there for the rest of the week. We had to really push to get the spot though as we're the 'youngest' department in the place (IT support Trinity College, Cambridge) so we weren't around when the spaces were originally allocated.

Us Jailers use the "POLICE" bays down the side of the nick. We swap with the outgoing shift after handover. Yay for free parking in the centre of Oxford!
Sometimes the Police retake the bays off us, especially when there's a special operation involving horses on (that's where they park the horse trailers). Then we have to use the park-and-ride which is a quid to park and 2 quid on the bus (or a 30 min walk). The only problem is that the Oxford traffic wardens are complete Fascists and they'll ticket you if you're 1/2" over the end of a bay.
