Ubuntu is booting out of frequency!!!

how the hell can i get it fixed?

What do you mean by "out of frequency?" The frequency of what?

Monitor refresh frequency I'd assume as he's having screen blanking issues.

If there's any way to boot Ubuntu in a 'safe' display mode, that'll help. I didn't get far enough into it to know if there's a way to do that.

How about booting the failsafe kernel and manually setting the refresh in your xorg.conf?

Something to try (works on my test box)

Once the message has come up and the box appears to have booted, hit ctrl+alt+backspace. This restarts X11 and then brings up the display succesfully on my box. Might work for you.

right, well i knew what had to be done but couldn't get it...just got as far as being able to see xorg.conf in rescue mode... didn't actually figure out how to edit it...

anyway - ended up reinstalling cose it only takes a fraction of the time windows does and i hadn't really amounted any important data.

But now i really don't think ubuntu likes X850 cards cose i've just booted and been forced into low graphics mode! I've tried to restart X but not able to get a higher res than 800x600

any tips would be appreciated

Which driver are you using? I usually have to force things along a little with xorg (still a big failing in Linux) I tend to use Kubuntu (I prefer KDE to Gnome) and its a lot easier to change display stuff in KDE

Still..

Bring up a terminal session and try the following command:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xorg

that will force it to re-detect your system / monitor and may fix things.

I've always had the old ATI problems when playing around with Ubuntu, but that was a year ago now... I've never been that sucessfull with linux distros tbh, wouldn't mind giving them a go again some time soon, but can't be bothered repartitioning my hard drive with so much data at stake...

right removed some sync settings from the monitor section of xorg.conf and now it seems to be okay
