Default Converting a DVD to a divx/xvid/whatever?

I've got some DVD images that I'd like to convert to a format suitable for streaming down the wires via the 360, ideally with a simple front end that doesn't involve too much faffing about. I don't want to introduce much loss to the picture quality either.

Is there such a simple tool which will allow me to do this or is the only way to run multiple applications with lots of different steps to get the end result?

I *think* VirtualDub-MPEG2 will do it in one go, though you will need the DivX/XviD codec. Note - the MPEG2 suffix is important (there are numerous versions that don't support MPEG2).

Getting that sort of quality is going to take a lot of processing, or a lot of disk space, or both.
