I r can haz website?
So during the week I had a meeting with my Father who has just left proper employment to start up his own leasehold management/consultancy business. His request was to build him a website...
So yesterday I sorted out hosting and the domain and tried to think about how to build this thing... I'd previously used word and frontpage to build websites (go me!) but word 2007 doesn't support it anymore and there is no frontpage 2007... So I got a copy of M$ Expression Web (don't ask) and have been having a play this morning. Has taken me 2 hours (interspersed with playing Eve, eating breakfast, drinking coffee, smoking, avoiding looking at it) to get to something which I'm pretty happy with. However, it's probably full of errors and stuff. Which is where you guys come in. Ignoring the lack of content, the crappy colour scheme and the fact that there are no images (all this will be sorted out when I get some material from my Dad to insert into the current empty shell), could the web savvy peoples take a look and tell me what's wrong with it? I did have a bit of fun when I finished all the pages, uploaded it and realised that all the links were borked Fixed that I did Anyhoo, the site can be found here: http://www.he-a.co.uk Any comments or advice (and of course the inevitable ridicule) would be greatly appreciated. Thankee Dym o/

Not an expert at all, but the layout/template looks good to work on to me. The fact that it took you no time at all is even more impressive!

Well I guess no one else has anything useful to say...
Thanks for your comments lads, hopefully there'll be some content soon (if my Dad stops being crap and pulls his finger out...).

Its a nice colour scheme but I think the main body would look better if it was wider. You kind of get hit with a lot of lilac and even when there is content on there it might take away from the focus of the site

Just had a quick shufty. Nice neat and tidy layout. Do agree with loki that the main bit could be wider (although as I'm looking at it on a widescreen monitor it being narrow is more emphasised).

There's nothing *wrong* with it - quite surprised that an MS app managed to spit out some decent markup. Having said that, I don't really like the way it looks - seems like it's just there for the sake of having a website when I assume it's going to be trying to sell something.
The colours are a little too pastelly and I don't think they really go. When using colours like that, you run the risk of them looking wildly different in different browsers. Have a look at this site for a nice colour scheme I know you said you weren't done with that yet, but it's worth a look either way. As a barebones layout, it's fine. |

I remain completely stunned by Expression Web. Its a microsoft product that doesn't produce stupidly bloated webpages. Looking down at the HTML level its using CSS properly (for once) and hardly adding anything extraneous. Congratulations to MS on finally producing a decent web site production product It looks like they've finally realised: Buying the frontpage technology was a really bad idea. Best to ditch it and rebuild from scratch. They've got the skills and talent to do a much better job, and they have.
