iPod totally crashed

Have a 5th Generation 30GB Ipod (the video one with a scrollwheel). Recently it has crashed. It appears to be just about dead battery wise, but when I plug it in somewhere the ipod logo appears and won't budge. I tried the reboot combo but then it gives me some silly message about being very low on battery, charges up for a bit, and then shows me the logo again!

I left it charging over night and the same thing happens. Any ideas? I'd like to avoid sending this to Apple, it has 11.5Gb of music which I don't want to have to replace, that and I don't think I have any more warranty on this thing (do Apple even take them back?)

It fixed itself!

I left it plugged into the PC via USB for a few days to no avail. Went home over the weekend, came back, turned the PC on and the iPod zoomed into life...

... for all I know it started working again days ago, I'd given up on it after plugging it into the PC so I haven't looked at it since Wednesday...

Hmmmm ironically mine has just done this

And exactly the same thing happens, says its charging and won't work. Last time i leave it to actually drain down... Sods law, but i needed an excuse for possibly not being able to afford to getting a new one 80/160Gb is really needed now (wasn't when i bought this initially). Glad yours is fixed i'll see how mine goes over the next few days... I've currently tried plugging in into power (but now laptop) and the laptop, neither worked

My advice is don't use mains power. It will try to charge blindly but of course, your iPod isn't playing ball. Use a computer if possible, the whole 'do not disconnect' message that pops up tells me the computer is 'linked' to the iPod which may do something to reset from a crash. That said, I have no idea how the iPod functions so my understanding is very limited, but it worked for me and I hope it will work for you. Just leave it plugged in as you use the computer for a few days and see what happens

Hmmm not working, it teased me though, loaded up with no battery, i plugeed the charger in straight away, it beeped at me (never heard that before!) and then went back to having "very low battery". Not looking great...
