London peeps - advice please

Mic and I are going to be spending a few nights in London next week.

We are staying here. Check in Tuesday, check out Friday.

We are planning on doing the "touristy" stuff and going round the museums, we also have London Eye, Madam Tussards and Tutankhamen exhibition planned. I know Mic has booked something for the Thursday night (but not sure what).

What would be really useful is some (cheap) places to eat and such like.

I probably should have posted this sooner but I'm dim and didn't think to

What kind of food? Mic isn't hugely adventurous is he? What kind of budget are you thinking of for a meal?

Porters in Covent Garden used to do some good traditional British grub. There's a really good vegetarian place on Neal Street just off Covent Garden called Food For Thought if you want a hearty veggie lunch. Wagamamas all over the place if you're into that sort of thing - a bit overpriced for what you get and nothing special in my opinion. Tutankhamen is at the dome isn't it? If you can get a bus or public transport to Greenwich (the dome isn't actually in Greenwich or near it) there are loads of restaurants and bars down there and I also recommend walking the tunnel under the Thames over to Docklands and take in a bit of river and sights from the north side where it's quieter and a better view.

Lots of places on the King's Road which is very close to Kensington, you can get a bus there. The Bluebird Garage there regularly gets good reviews. You could also go to Soho and get some Chinese food, any of them are pretty much for a muchness and relatively cheap for what you get compared to surrounding areas.

Afternoon tea in Harrods which is walking distance from the museums. Hyde Park is also walking distance from the museums if you wanted to take a packed lunch and take a wander round the Serpentine Gallery (free entrance) and see a bit of obscure art and design.

Souk just off Leicester Square is a lot of fun. I think it's Moroccan but it's all underground and you sit on low sofas with loads of cushions and low tables and they bring you out a feast of stuff. There's a free photo gallery next door.

I recently went to Belgo Centraal in Covent garden. Belgian Food, I had some crumbed cheese and cranberry, steak frites (standard!) and Belgian chocolate mousse. They do hundreds of belgian beers, the beer mneu is oustandingly cool it takes hours to read

Been recommended Gourmet Burger Kitchen (which looks to be virtually next door to where we're staying), Talad Thai in Putney and any of The Stockpot restaurants by Loz - thank you
