Converting .ogg files for an iPod?

I have a number of tunes in .ogg format that I want to play on my iPod. I can convert them to mp3 but that seems a bit wrong, converting one lossy format to another.

What's the best format I should convert them to for loading onto my iPod?

You may as well go to MP3. You've got a lossy file to start with so if you went to WAV, FLAC or something else you're not going to gain what was lost when converting it to an ogg.

Converting from one lossy format to another is never ideal because you're starting off with lost audio data and losing more, but having said that, there's not a significant amount of benefit to going lossless either at this stage given the size of the result and the fact you've lost some of the audio already and won't get it back.

If going back to source is too impractical then the best you can do is going for MP3 at a quality roughly equivalent to the options you used for Ogg, and then listen to the results.
