I'd get the MX518.

Why?

Because £70 on a MOUSE is bordering on clinically mad.

Especially when all the extra £40 gets you is a different shape, a strange side wheel, laser and not a great deal else from what I can see.

MX518, because I have 1 and dont have any experience of anything else corded. I'd have bought another MX700 if they still made them, still use it on my home rig.

Both great mice though, and I'm picky with them.

Coz i ownz itz & Iz pwnz wiz itz

Or if you prefer;

I am a big fan of Logitech products & have been from a 510 to a 1000 & then on & now to the 518.
The 510 is still upstairs & I would still fight you for it, weight, precision, features were perfect for the time & still are if I ever need it.
The 1000 although a very good mouse was chordless which just don't go down well with my gaming head, Although it passed all tests in game I still had this nagging in the bag of my head when I got fragged
The 518 is the Brand new version of the 510 with the extra buttons. In use it is beatifully balanced for my hands which are large (worth noting) As precise as ever but with the on the fly speed adjustment. There are 3 pre set mouse cursor speeds built in which although sound gimmicky are Essential once you have them.
On desktop you can reduce speed & pick out exactly what you want or speed it up for fast browsing.
In games like BF2 it comes in to its own as you can switch between the slow for sniping & the fast for rushing in an instance
You all know how much I game/surf/spam etc so my mouses/mices take a hammering, Never have I had one fail yet. I did ring Logitech for some more feet for the 510 & they sent me some out at no cost

Think that about covers it

Oooo forgot, the Perfect amount of other buttons to assign to whatever you fancy. I have my pressy button bit of my mouse wheel set for nades for example, Kin great mouse.

Setting aside the fancy ergonomics (mainly because the MX series ergonomics are fine), it comes down to corded vs. cordless.

I'm a cordless person myself, but I don't game much. Some (maybe most) cordless mice can be a little prone to lag, especially if they've had time to enter a standby/sleep state.

If you need gaming grade, and it looks like you do, then I'd go for the MX518 - cheaper and more reliable.

PS - I own an MX500 and an MX700. Not currently using them because I'm a big fan of Microsoft keyboards so I'm using their desktop sets (like them so much I have four - all identical - two in use and two spares).

I use the mx revolution on multiple machines and it rocks.

I certainly didn't pay £70 for it though. The shape is perfect for me, weight is great, sensitivity is great, the extra wheel is also prettu useful if you are a lazy arse like me. Holds it's charge for a fair while too.

I need to replace my older mx1000 - I'll get a revolution again.

I've got a 510 so it makes perfect sense to vote for the 518 really. My 510 is a great mouse, did me proud through many, many CS games.

Have a look at the sharkoon roush mouse, it doesn't have a huge number of buttons, but it is an awesome mouse. And the price is unbelievable. They could easily sale it for twice the amount.

It looks like the 518 is coming up as the mouse of choice, I'm not bothered about wired or wireless any more so the fact that it has a cable doesn't bother me. I've also used enough wireless mouses to know that with a good one, there is no lag whatsoever.

The Sharkoon doesn't appear to have navigation buttons so it's out of the question.

It's frustrating that pretty much the only place one can go and buy computer stuff over the counter these days is PC World unless you happen to live near one of the few specialist places around the country. We used to have a couple of little independent computer shops nearby but they've both gone. I need a mouse today so I'm forced to go to PC World for it. *sigh*

Thanks for the useful comments all

This is a bloody joke.

PC World, not stocked
Dixons don't appear to have any stores any more (out of stock online)
Currys, not stocked
Comet, not stocked
Staples, not stocked

What other high street stores are likely to keep such an item?
