*mutter mutter* banks *mutter*
Last Friday a transfer was initiated into my account and at the same time, a cheque was paid in.
Cheque cleared yesterday, the transfer still hasn't appeared

Whenever I cash a chq or do a transfer I don't expect it to be done within a week - then when it is - thats a bonus!

I fail to see how the banks can justify this. It doesn't take 3-5 days for my benk to tell my brother's bank that I'm good for the money I'm transferring - it should happen in a matter of seconds.

Wasn't some rule passed a little while back meaning transfers were meant to happen far quicker now?

Not passed, i think banks can just take part in the "faster transactions" if they wish, and so far it only works between the same bank, and maybe a few others. So its still pretty useless the technology is there for everyone to take part in instant bank transfers but banks still make a fair amount of interest off this limbo money for 3-5 days...

We're used to free banking in this country and I'd like it to stay that way, if things like this help then so be it. When the whole charging for cash points thing fell through the banks started moaning again. I'm worried this fast transfer facility will be another nail in the coffin.

Have to agree with Daz really. If this is where they make some money rather than charging me for using my account, I'm all for it. They WILL recoup the money from somewhere.

The trouble is that I budgeted all this week for getting a certain amount of cash out of the cashpoint each day so that I'd have what I need tomorrow - Now I'm going to have to go into a branch tomorrow and that's quite inconvenient.
I phoned the bank and they have no record of anything coming in
