Default One legged excercise...

Well as I'm now on my bum for another 4 weeks, I need to think of something to burn off those calories I'm taking in.

I'd like to work on my upper body, arms etc so that I can haul myself about on crutches a bit better so any excercise tips for that would be great.

Stomach and legs were big anyway, but if there are any excercises I can do whilst unable to put pressure on my right foot, can someone let me know!

Ta!

Reach for remote, pick up remote, press buttons on remote, put down remote, reach for cuppa, pick up cuppa, drink cuppa, put down cuppa.....

It's not easy, best thing I can recommend is googling for exercises for the wheelchair bound - quick google at work brings up this. They are aimed at the more mature person though.

I'd be wary of most leg exercises with one leg damaged, as usually one supports the other. I can think of a few that might work though:

Leg extension: Sit on a surface high enough that your feet won't touch the floor. Attach weight to ankle, raise up and outwards, then back to start.

Single Leg Calf Raise: As long as you can hang onto something either side of your body to stop you falling, stand on your good leg with the other off the floor and extend onto tip-toe, then back to the start. You can also do a reverse calf raise by going onto your heels and raising your toes as high as you can.

Those two will work thighs and quads respectively.

Arm exercises will be easier but almost all would probably be best carried out sitting flat on the floor to prevent further leg injury. From there you can do bicep curls, rows etc. Tricep pull-downs would be hard from that position though, so an alternative is to sit between two stacks of books, or whatever, and lift your body off the floor.

This site has a lot of exercises including animated gifs of how to do them:

Woohoo, there's enough there to keep me busy, and probably tired out too!

Cheers exercise gurus!

I'd go with all the ones Piggy listed. I wouldn't exercise just one leg as you'll be imbalanced by the time you're back up and about.

Because I can bend my knee, I was considering the 'leg extension' especially as my right leg has a lot of weight on it anyway, due to the support.

Then instead of 'Hop along' we would have to call you 'Little Foot'
