Default American Football..

anyone ever played?

I was targeted by the guys on monday night at the union, and then at the sports fair. ended up going along to their introduction meeting thing, and then out on a bit of a social with em. Seem like a decent bunch of blokes and it sounds like it could be fun.
so i've picked up a pair of boots and a gum shield this morning for like £16 (!!!) and i'm gonna go down to their open day tomorrow

I played about 15 years ago for the now defunct Manchester Colts. LB on Defense and Running Back on Offense. Being small in height but a bit of a big lad who was quite quick had it's advantages back then. Alas my lofty dream of being the first British Linebacker for the Bears was cut short when I got clipped and had my ribs broke half way through the season.

It is really good fun and a good game to play. Obvious similarities to Rugby but the fitness required is different. Whereas Rugby can be quite free flowing, Football is very stop start but higher impact. Prepare to have the wind knocked right out of your sails on your first hit

Put your gum sheild in boiling water then put it in your mouth. Should mold to your teeth/gumline profile a little better and be a little more comfortable

American Football is just another game the Americans think up because they needed something to call their own..

Let's all go hysterical when the ball advances 20 yards.. hang on let's make it more exciting.. let's bring on another team.. and bring them off after 5 minutes... let's make it four hours long.. let's have school girls dancing around to make it more interesting becuase it's soo boring.. Blahh..

Tip for Americans.. Try some Rugby you poofs!!

ha, i'm a rugby fan... and got pissed off the other night with another rugby fan goin on about the 'whole pad thing'
but lets remember... this is England... we're playing their game, our way.
Main point i picked up on the other day... the pads aren't for protection - they're so you can hit harder!

Wow, this game is intense.

Had a 5 hour traning session yesterday, loved the full contact tackling in my D Line position. Not worked that hard in years - so today's been nasty. Legs/back/neck all well f00ked.
I've had to take a trip to boots for pain killers and deep heat!

oh, and then theres the bruise on my left arm that I got from a ball straight into the arm!

Bring on training next sunday!!
