I just made a sausage casserole type thing. Basically, I got loads of veg, herbs, tomatoes, wine, tom puree, worcester sauce and bunged it all in a pot with some chopped up snags.
Should I have cooked the sausages off first one their own? It has been on the hob for 2 hours, but I don't know if I can eat it yet. |

I usually at least half cook them, kind of seal them off before throwing them in. If in doubt though, see if you can remove them now to finish them off

I always cook them (usually fry) just enough to give them some colour before adding them to the other stuff. They'll be absolutely fine to cook even if you don't pre-cook them.

They'll be cooked, but they may look raw because they aren't browned. Whether that affects your enjoyment of them is down to you!

Yep yep, I always brown mine off beforehand but that's more visually appealing that anything else.

2 hours should be plenty of time to cook them

You are all correct. They looked underdone, but were cooked through. The casserole was highly rewarding.

I usually brown them off and put them in 15-20 mins before the end, then the sausages don't lose any of their flavour to the casserole.
